There are some conditions that may cause a person to take refuge with hip replacement surgeries, new studies suggest, showing the circumstances that may have long-term impact on chronic hip pain and other debilitating effects. When there is severe pain already and you cannot sleep through it, and when it is getting harder and harder to get up and perform your daily routine, replacement surgery may be resorted to. But there is always a bad side of the story. Hip replacements, no matter how convenient, also has its share of bad effects. Others experienced a defective ASR implant of DePuy and filed complaints about it.

But you cannot help yourself to succumb into getting a hip replacement surgery when there is tremendous pain and that pain relievers are no longer an option. Here are the top diseases that lead to hip replacement surgery:

OSTEOARTHRITIS occurs when cartilage on the end of bone begins wearing away, causing pain and rigidity. When the cartilage wears away totally, the bones rub directly against each other causing diminished movement and chronic pain. Osteoarthritis is usually seen in people 50 years old and above, and those with a family history of arthritis or with lifestyles that strain the hip joints, such as athletes and workers.

AVASCULAR NECROSIS is the ailment in which the head of the femur loses some of its blood supply and actually dies. This may be be triggered by disease, or a severe trauma, such as a break or dislocation, that affects the blood supply to the bone. Often times, though, there is no trauma or disease. This is called idiopathic osteonecrosis, about which the cause is unknown.

TRAUMATIC ARTHRITIS sometimes results from a serious hip injury or fracture. The articular cartilage becomes damaged and, over time, causes hip pain and stiffness.

HIP FRACTURES as well as some kinds of hip conditions that appear in childhood such as developmental dysplasia, congenital dislocation of hip and Perthes disease can also lead to deterioration, many years after an injury and require the need for hip replacement surgery.

RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS is apparently an autoimmune disease in which the synovial membrane becomes inflamed. The membrane then yields too much synovial fluid, damaging the articular cartilage.

Prevention remains a good positioning against any of these diseases, if only to avoid any pain and hip replacement surgeries and also to save yourself from the serious side effects brought by some products like DePuy ASR XL System, which are used in performing this operation, resulting to DePuy hip device recall.

The information provided by the National Joint Registry of England and Wales (NJR) may help the DePuy hip replacement plaintiffs on their charges against the company.

On July 23, 2012, as approved by NJR, US District Court Judge David A. Katz directed DePuy Orthopaedics Inc. to permit plaintiffs to access the artificial joint registry information, with restrictions. Katz is the one who oversees the DePuy ASR multidistrict litigation meeting (MDL).

Previous news reports discussed about DePuy communicating with the plaintiffs. The company has initiated contact with patients who received defective implants, offering them reimbursements for any losses incurred due to the defective hip devices.

However, law groups advice the affected patients to consult legal experts on their course of action regarding the DePuy hip replacement system.

Hip bursitis, also known as trochanteric bursitis, is hip pain secondary to inflammation of the trochanteric bursa. Hip bursitis may be painful during an activity and at rest. Know its causes, symptoms and prevention. Hip replacement surgery is one of the its treatment. However, hip replacement surgeries became controversial due to defective hip prostheses like the ones manufactured by DePuy Orthopaedics Inc. DePuy Orthopaedics, Inc. is currently facing various lawsuits filed by law firms in UK, US and Australia, in behalf of patients who underwent hip replacement operations.

Anyhow, hip bursitis is a common hip pain infection. It is inflammation of the trochanteric bursa. The bursa is a fluid filled sac. Its function is to cushion and reduce friction around the greater trochanter of the lateral hip.

The primary hip bursitis symptoms are joint pain and stiffness in areas that you move the most. The joint pain may be very severe when you move the affected muscles.. Then, after you stop moving you will have pain that will feel like a sore ache.

Many people who have activities and jobs that require them to do the same type of repetitive movements. With this, pain will be felt in the places where the tendons rub over the bone and the bursa will be inflamed.  When your muscle is used over and over again, it will become coarse and this may lead to hip bursitis.

When this happens it means that the inflammation will cause the bursa to lose its slickness and the movement of the muscle will become harder. Instead of a soft and effortless glide of movement, it will feel rough and gritty. The confined space that is between the muscles and the bursa will get smaller and the inflammation will cause friction any time you move. Trauma can also cause bursitis such as a fall landing on the outside of the hip.

The most effective way to help with the pain of bursitis is an anti-inflammatory medication, experts say. In some cases, you need to brace the tendons that have been affected by the bursitis. You will need to talk to your doctor about the best way to treat this condition so you don’t have to deal with the pain.

As advised by medical specialists, the best way of preventing bursitis is to do stretching exercises regularly to lengthen the bursa or bone connection. Additionally, make sure that you rest the bursa after doing any strenuous.

You can further avoid hip bursitis by researching the condition, being aware of all possible causes and early symptoms. The more information you have, the more the possibility of hip bursitis prevention. Treat your body muscles right so you don’t end up in intense pain.

Lastly, when you experience muscle pains, don’t ignore it. Consult your doctor as soon as you can. A medication may be prescribed to stop the inflammation from getting worse. In extreme cases, hip surgeries may be advised.
